THE OUT - ABOUT
Dark days. We feel buried under endless unnerving headlines. We cling to past mistakes and regrets. We romanticize. We make excuses. We look for clarity and resolution, often finding neither. Even as the things we perceive as negative can sometimes light our way with an unsettling brilliance, we look away. Tear it all up. Everyone is looking for their out.
The Out is presented in a jigsaw puzzle arrangement of staccato notes intended to motivate people to dance with existential reflection and find their escape.
THE OUT - LYRICS
There's a lie
If you're good, I'm good
Cold calculations
Don't rearrange
The out
The out
The out
It was not life banging away
The out
The out
The out
It was not life changing anyway
Just pointing at words
Desperate to undo feeling this way
Your sins, brighter than the sun
Your sins, better than what came before
The out for you is one way
The out for you is no way
Politics and power
Philosophy arouses her
The out
The out
The out
It was not life banging away
The out
The out
The out
It was not life changing anyway
I think we'll be spared
I think we'll see the tragedy
I think we'll be spared
I think I'll be your tragedy
Regret, decay
And never mirror days
The threats replay
Though silence never stays
The out
The out
The out
It was not life banging away
The out
The out
The out
It was not life changing anyway
The out
The out
The out
It was not life banging away
The out
The out
The out
It was not life changing anyway
What's right for the head
What's right in the head
Put myself away
Put it right in my head
It was not life banging away
It was not life changing anyway
The out for you is one way
The out for you is no way
PRINCESS UGLY - ABOUT
From Portland, Oregon USA, Princess Ugly is J. Christopher-Rome (words/vocals) and Christopher Moncrieffe (music/instruments).
Frequent contributor Cat Powell-Hoffmann performs additional vocals on The Out.
Drawing inspiration from post-punk, goth and a dash of industrial, Princess Ugly treads analogous terrain, but casts their purview wider, building their dark, sometimes danceable, songs across adjacent genres.
Although the first album released in 2006 was more of a solo-effort for J. Christopher-Rome, Christopher Moncrieffe joined in 2007 and the band released two albums as a duo, The Past, One Second At A Time (2010) and It Should Be Clear By Now (2012). After a hiatus, they returned in 2021 for a string of singles and EPs that dug deeper into their post-punk and goth influences, including Hunger (Single, 2021), An Individual Soul (Single, 2023), Break Every Room (Single, 2023), Death After Life (EP, 2023), and Bring the Axes (EP, 2024).
They also appear on Belgium label Spleen+'s Resurgence (2025) post-punk compilation box set.
